FORMER foster-dog Dexter!!! Yayy!

Well, it’s official!  After nearly 3 months in my home as a foster Dexter has been adopted… by someone else!  Dexter went to his new adoptive home on Friday and I’ve already gotten a positive update from his new family.  I’m so very happy for the Dex-man, he’s such a good dog and he deserved a family who would love him (and who would learn to love his quirkiness).  Although not at all the situation I pictured him being adopted into, I think it’s such a great fit for him.

Dex getting a ball from the bottom of the pool!

Dexter is now living with a great couple who live in the city but who have a large private backyard.  The woman is a runner and wanted a new running partner since her previous running partner is aging and the younger dog in the house is more of a sprinter.  Dex is now living with 4 other dogs, which in any other circumstance would probably be a little concerning but two of the dogs are in their teens, one of the dogs is 9 (though she acts much younger), and there is a 2 year old cattle dog/pit bull mix who is a big happy guy who loves to play.  Dex met the gang a few times and fit right in with everyone and enjoyed playing with the younger dog and the 9 year old.

I’m so happy Dex found a home that loves him, can laugh at his silly antics, and is patient enough to work with some of his cattle-dog quirks.  He came to me a bit of a hot mess (happy, but a mess nonetheless) and I’d like to think he left with more life skills to keep him from being such a hot mess in his new home.

Congrats Dexter!  Good Luck in your new home–I know you are going to love it!

That’s great! Sounds like it will work out, he has buddies to play with in the yard, and a running partner which will help drain his energy. I’m sure he also helps drain the 2 year olds energy so I think the rest of the pack is looking forward to the addition too. Great job with helping him with more life skills, hopefully they will carry the baton on from here.

    • They definitely got him as a way to help drain the energy of the 2 year old… they are both a little crazy so they can be crazy together! I’m sure they will work with him so he can continue to the good behavior.

  4. I’m so happy Dexter found a great home. No doubt due in part to the extensive work you did with him. Way to go both of you!

I was initially wondering if you’d failed fostering 101! 🙂 Glad he found a great home!

    • LOL! Excellent! I was hoping that my wording would give that initial thought! My only foster failure is my cat Jefferson… he’s this rock awesome cat and i didn’t get a single inquiry over the course of 2 months … so he became mine… and he’s great!

  9. ❤ I keep saying it but I'll say it again, you did a great job with him! I think that he will have a great life with his new family.

I am sooooooo happy that Dexter has found a Forever Home. You both have worked so hard for this. The family seems like a good fit too. I’m gonna miss him!
